French Classes for Adults

Find the French class that suits you!

Enrollments are open! Now is your chance to learn French with the Alliance Française!

We offer a range of adult group classes during the week from Monday to Thursday. The day of the classes might vary depending on students and teachers availability. Nevertheless, we try to keep the classes on the same day throughout the whole year. Our lessons are formulated so that you benefit from the classes and improve your level of French. We favour small groups (max 8) in order to guarantee a better understanding and a better practice during the class. Our classes cover the four core areas of language development: speaking, reading, writing and listening.

Our group classes follow the European Framework of Reference for Languages (CECRL – Cadre Européen Commun de Référence pour les Langues) that define the different levels of knowledge for a foreign language.

The different levels we currently offers are:

Total Beginner A1.1. (Tuesday) You will learn the basics in French: how to introduce yourself, to count, and a few verbs. We promise, it’s not that hard.

Adult Progressing Beginner (Wednesday):
When you are no longer a total beginner.

Improver A2/A2+: (Monday)  In this level you will learn to develop more advanced sentences in broader topics. For example, you will learn how to talk about your work or studies and . You will also learn about the relative pronouns qui/que and how to use the past and futur tense in French!

French convervation (Thursday) . Dive into lively and engaging conversations in French with our informal chatting class! Designed for advanced learners (B2 and above), each session focuses on one or two cultural topics, ranging from current events and French culture to film and literature. Through guided discussions, you’ll refine your speaking skills, expand your vocabulary, and deepen your cultural understanding in a relaxed and friendly environment. Perfect for those looking to enhance fluency and confidence while exploring the richness of French-speaking cultures..

Please note that depending on the number of students, some groupings may need to be modified or combined.

If you are not sure of your level, please contact us at info@afdarwin.org so we can assess your level.

Class Material

The Alliance Francaise de Darwin uses textbooks for some classes to help you navigate your learning. Our teachers will complement each class with a variety of resources from online video and audio to other printed resources.

If a textbook is required, it will be invoiced to you upon registration – you will usually use this book for one year before you can move up. Your language proficiency level will be assessed with the teacher before purchasing any book. You are responsible for the purchase of your texts and workbooks.
